Description
Najma Akhtar released her third album,Atish (Fire) in 1989 with Triple Earth Music. This album includes a variety of musical styles including ghazals as well as other forms of Indian music such as the Qawwali, a form of Sufi music, and a cover of the American country and western classic, "Faithless Love", composed by musician, J.D. Souther.

Akhtar was also accompanied by tabla player, Talvin Singh, who founded the popular club night, Anokha, at the Blue Note Café in East London. Atish attracted wide audiences and reached No 4 in the
Billboard World Music Chart.

Recordings
Najma Akhtar has released six albums to date, including: Ghazals by Najma in 1988, Qareeb in 1989, Atish in 1990, Pukar in 1992, Forbidden Kiss: the Songs of S.D. Burman in 1996, and her latest release, Vivid in 2002.
