• Performed, toured and recorded with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page for their MTV Special ‘Unplugged’. This live TV recording was also released on an album titled, ‘No Quarter’ and released on the Atlantic record label worldwide.

Apache Indian on his hit single titled ‘Arranged Marriage’
• Recorded 2 songs for Philip Glass on the ‘Liquid Days’ album accompanied by the Crouch End Choir and conducted by David Temple. Released October 2000.
Ian Anderson on the album ‘Dot Com’
• Co-wrote a track with Maartin Allock from Band ‘Fairport convention’ for his album, titled ‘OX 19’ and released on the Jethro Tull label.
Recorded for Steve Copeland’s new album.
• A National Theatre Production titled ‘Haron and The Seas Of Stories’
A five month project where Najma wrote, composed and acted in the Tara Arts epic production --‘Trilogy --- The Journey To The West’. 2002.
• Co-wrote with BASEMENT JAX. Song used on the ‘B’ side of their single titled MERI JAAN and the name of the single is GOOD LUCK. 2003
Najma’s music has also been used in Hollywood’s new movie titled, ‘People I Know’ starring Al Pacino. 2003
• Performed vocals in a TV commercial for ‘Walkers Crisps’ 2003
Guest appearances on the Jocelyn Pook’s Classical Fusion Ensemble tour in Italy [NOV 2003]
• Recorded vocals for a BBC 2 TV wild life programme titled, ‘The Tigers Of The Emerald Forest’
Invited by the Really Useful Group to come and coach the cast of the ‘BOMBAY DREAMS’ team in vocal technique. 2002
• Composed and co-wrote songs with the Fratelli brothers for a short film. {Filmed in India} for channel four and The National Geographic TV Channel titled ‘The Fat Plague .Has been screened on channel 4 as well as the National Geographic world 2005.
Compered the dance / music stage at the Respect Festival 2002
• Wrote, composed and recorded 13 songs for a new full length ‘Bollywood Style’ film production titled ‘Bollywood Queen’. The music has been released as a soundtrack album published with MCS MUSIC 2002
Supported Robert Plant at the Apollo Theatre Hammersmith London with the new ‘VIVID BAND’ 2002
• Solo concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall … South Bank 2002
Co-wrote dance track with Turkish DJ Necmi titled ‘Oojami’ released by Arc 21 2002 {MILES COPELANDS LABEL]
• West End Musical, titled ‘The Far Pavilions’ launched April 2005. Najma has been part of the musical collaborative team.
Francois Audrain has used Najma’s voice on 2 tracks on the album titled ‘Detachee’ released on Warner Music France.2001
• Vocal project in conjunction with the Science Museum London and is set up as a permanent installation for the next 4 years in the Wellcome Wing. 2001
Co- presented a musical extravaganza with Jools Holland on the BBC 2 TV programme, ‘Later with Jools’ and was aired in August 2001.
• Recorded vocal sound track for The National Geographic TV Channel 4 documentary on the ‘Kumbha Mela’.2001
Last main tour was in Turkmenistan 2004 in collaboration with the British Embassy

Najma Akhtar is one of the principal creative forces of the last decade to have made innovative popular music based on traditional North Asian forms modernized through a young European sensibility.

At present Najma is co-writing with other musicians, always willing to experiment and create different sounds. With her unique voice new musical directions are emerging.
