Najma’s personal high-lights include performing with Nina Simone for 2 nights at the London Dominium Theatre and being the first British born Asian to headline at the world famous jazz venue Ronnie Scots, also jazz stages at the Glastonbury and Reading festivals and 4 consecutive nights at the Jazz Café, London.

• Performed, toured and recorded with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page for their MTV Special ‘Unplugged’. This live TV recording was also
released on an album titled, ‘No Quarter’ and released on the Atlantic
record label worldwide. 1994 - 1995
• Performed at various jazz festivals including the International Palestinian Jazz Festival in Jerusalem. 1992 and 2000
• Appeared as guest vocalist with the Indian Underground dance band
‘Sister India’ on tour March 2000.
• Performed with Jah Wobble on the launch of his album ‘Take Me To God’
• International Fashion Designer Azzediene Alia used Najma’s music as part of his summer collection video which was director by Jean Baptiste Mondino in Paris.
• Performed, toured and co- wrote music with prominent jazz vocalist Carol Grimes and composer Janette Mason.
• Performed with the London Synfonia at the Barbican Theatre [ 1999]
• Last main tour was in Turkmenistan 2004 in collaboration with the
British Embassy

 

THEATRICAL,MUSICALANDACTING COLLABORATIONS
• Made a debut performance as an actress and vocalist at the prestigious National Theatre in London, in an ensemble production titled ‘Haroon and The Sea of Stories’- an adaptation of a book by Salman Rushdie and directed by Tim Supple. The run was from 1ST October 1998 to January 1999.
• A guest appearance in a Granada TV Production called ‘Family Pride’
• Modeled a specially designed outfit on the catwalk for the BBC1 programme ‘The Clothes Show’.
• Images of her have also been used in TV commercials i.e. the USA telephone company AT&T screened for Canada and the States.
• Played lead role in a UK Urdu TV Drama production, titled ‘Apne Begane’ screened on Asian Channels in 2000.
• Completed a singing and acting collaboration with Tara Arts Theatre
Company, titled ‘Genesis’. {14 week project}[1999]
• Took part in a singing and acting collaboration with English / French based ‘Theatre Mélange’ Company on a touring production titled, ‘The Cinnamon Veil’. [2000]
• Invited to take part in the Unicorn Theatre workshops in the development of their new production, titled ‘The Arabian Nights’.[2001]
• Took part in Theatre Royal Stratford East workshop, titled ‘Music in Theatre’ which involved a collaboration of artists from various backgrounds to deliver a work in progress short musical.[2001]
• Played a key role in a UK based TV serial titled ‘Kismet Road’ for channel 4. and Granada TV [2001]
• West End Musical, titled ‘The Far Pavilions’. Najma invited to help co-write some of the Indian influence based songs.
• Vocal project in conjunction with the Science Museum London and is set up as a permanent vocal installation for 4 years in the Wellcome Wing.
• Co- presented a musical extravaganza with Jools Holland on the BBC 2 TV programme, ‘Later with Jools’ and was aired in August 2001.
• Invited by the Really Useful Group to come and coach the cast of the West End Musical ‘BOMBAY DREAMS’ team in vocal technique. [2002]
• A five month project where Najma wrote, composed and acted in the Tara Arts epic Production --‘Trilogy --- The Journey to the West’.
• Giving collaborative workshops with theatre company ‘Theatre Mélange’ [2003]
